Bury St Edmunds is gearing up for the festive period as the town counts down to the annual Christmas lights switch on.
At 6.45pm on Thursday, 20 November, Julie Reinger, who presents the weather on BBC 1’s Look East, will switch on the town’s Christmas lights. An evening of entertainments has been planned, with elves, pantomime dames and Santa Claus all dropping in to join in the festivities. Live bands and choirs will also be performing on a stage outside Marks & Spencer.
The event marks the start of late night shopping in the town, which will run every Thursday until Christmas. And people in search of that perfect present will get the added bonus of parking in the town for free from 4pm on days when late night shopping takes place.
In addition to the host of festive activities on offer, special markets will also be held during the Sundays running up to Christmas. The markets, which will compliment the regular markets held on Wednesdays and Saturdays, will start on 30 November and run every Sunday up to and including 21 December.
