If you have not yet registered to vote in next May’s elections, then you should do so now to make sure your voice will still be heard.
Last month, St Edmundsbury Borough Council sent electoral registration forms out to more than 44,000 homes to collect information so an updated Register of Electors, listing people entitled to vote, can be published by 1 December. So far, over 70% of households have already returned their forms, and reminders are now being sent to the remaining 30%.
Deborah Cadman, St Edmundsbury’s Chief Executive and Electoral Registration Officer, said:
“Legally we have to keep trying to make contact with households which do not provide any information. This involves sending reminder forms and making visits to the properties. If you receive a reminder please return it promptly and avoid the intrusion of my staff having to call at your home.”
If you do not need to make any changes to the details listed on the form for your household, you can confirm your registration 24 hours a day over the telephone or using the internet. If any details have changed, you should fill in the form and send it back.
Anyone with any questions about their form can contact the helpline on 01284 757131 or email elections@stedsbc.gov.uk
Returning the form will allow you to vote in both borough and parish council elections, which take place next May.
