Join ‘The Whittinghams’ on Saturday 19 May between 10am and 4pm at Moyse’s Hall Museum, Bury St Edmunds and explore the 15th Century through Henry VI’s personal household. Try your hand at mediaeval script, make and dress in armour, learn about mediaeval herbs and more! Activities take place throughout the day so there is plenty of time to take part and look round the collections in the museum. Participation is included in the normal admission fee.
The Whittinghams re-enact the lives of The Whittingham Household, a noble family and their retainers during the mid-fifteenth Century, the time now known as The Wars of the Roses.
Sir Robert Whittingham, the head of the household, was a staunch supporter of the Lancastrian king, Henry VI. The lives of the family offer a fascinating insight into the experience of living in this turbulent period.
Members of the group will be happy to speak about the history of the family and their involvement in the politics of the time. They will also be demonstrating various crafts, including armouring, herbalism and writing.
