A brand new online shop has been launched by West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village, giving internet users a chance to buy their souvenirs, DVDs and history books from the comfort of their own home.
St Edmundsbury has made more than 60 unique items available by mail order, including replicas, souvenirs, CDs, craft items and games. A variety of education materials are also available, and can be ordered in advance of a school visit and collected on the day of the trip. This allows pupils to spend more time learning about Anglo-Saxons in the reconstructed village instead of queuing to pay for souvenirs in the shop. Short booklets which can help with school projects, as well as in depth books and DVDs on Anglo-Saxon archaeology, are also available.
Cllr Paul Farmer, St Edmundsbury’s Portfolio Holder for Arts and Culture, said:
“This is a great step forward in making the Anglo-Saxon village more accessible. A huge range of items are now available online, from souvenirs at pocket money prices through to first class replicas of Anglo-Saxon jewellery and glassware that are accurately modelled on local archaeological finds. So hopefully there is something for everyone! The online shop will also be handy for schools that are planning day trips to the village.”
The online shop can be viewed by visiting the council's website and following the West Stow link. You can place your order by calling 01284 728718 between 9am and 5pm daily. At the moment, orders can only be placed over the phone, but future plans include an online shopping basket and checkout facility, so orders can be placed at any time of day or night, without picking up the phone.
