From 9 November, young people in Bury St Edmunds will have a somewhere new to go on a Friday night. Recliner is an event for under-18s held from 8.30pm to midnight every week at Number 46, St Andrews Street South. The name was chosen by the young people, who also have an important say in the activities laid on, which include music, film, internet, bands, DJs, pool and creative arts projects.
The event is run by qualified youth workers on behalf of St Edmundsbury Borough Council's crime and disorder reduction partnership team and Suffolk Youth and Connexions.
Cllr Sara Midmay-White, portfolio holder for Community at St Edmundsbury, said:
"In recent consultation, residents told us that one of their priorities was more activities for young people and this is a step towards that goal. The idea for Recliner is for young people to say what interests them and determine how it is provided. As word spreads, I expect this to become a popular event."
Recliner is drug and alcohol free. Right of admission is reserved. Go to
