The Secret Hairdresser has been proclaimed winner of the first heat of this year's BurySOUND competition in front of a sell-out crowd last Friday.
The standard this year has been incredibly high and impressed both the judges and the audience. Even though the doors opened earlier this year to accommodate the extra band in each heat, this didn’t stop the crowd from queuing at the doors in eager anticipation of the electric entertainment that lay ahead.
The next heats look set to be just as exciting and tickets are already selling out fast. Heat Two will be on Saturday 13 November and features Animal Planet, Ionic, My Epic Enemy, Story So Far and Where’s Jonny? The last heat will be on Friday 26 November with Ashborn, Latah, San Francisco, The Fashion and 8 Lives Left. The best band from each heat then compete in the final on Saturday 11 December.
Ticket prices for BurySOUND are £5 in advance (£6.50 on the door if there are any left!) from the Bury St Edmunds bus and coach station, Hardcore Hobbies, MVC, Sounds Plus and Sunrise (all in Bury St Edmunds). Credit card line – Tourist Information Centre 01284 764667 (£5.50 including booking fee). Doors will open at 7pm. For more information on this year’s competition, e-mail BurySOUND@stedsbc.gov.uk, phone Jackie Smith on 01284 757077 or click on The Scene at www.stedmundsbury.gov.uk.
During the evening a tribute was paid to John Peel and thoughts went out to his family and friends. John was a strong supporter of BurySOUND since it started in 1997 and of the local band scene. He will be sadly missed by all those whose lives he has touched.
