The annual St Edmundsbury Mayor-making ceremony will this year move from its traditional Athenaeum home as the refurbishment project continues.
Instead the event, which will be followed by the borough council’s annual meeting, will take place in the Corn Exchange in Bury St Edmunds at 11am on 18 May. Councillors will meet at the Borough Offices on Angel Hill and process up Abbeygate Street at around 10.45am.
During the meeting, a new Mayor and Deputy Mayor will be elected. The annual council meeting will then take place, during which the political balance of St Edmundsbury will be reviewed and various appointments made.
