Calling the next generation of athletes

8 March, 2005

Photo opportunity: Saturday 19 March at 10.30am- members of the Star Track athletics club will be showing Cllr Terry Clements their latest moves in the Dome at King Edward School in Bury St Edmunds.

Are you aged between 8 and 13 years old and full of beans on Saturday mornings? Why not put all that energy to good use by coming along to the Star Track athletics club and be part of its voyage of discovery for budding young athletes.

St Edmundsbury’s Star Track club is on a mission to find the next generation of athletes to join around 40 other talented youngsters who regularly come along to its Saturday morning club.

Star Track is run by qualified coaches and gives young people the chance to try out a variety of sports activities, encourages self improvement, a sense of sportsmanship and the chance to have fun at the same time!

The success of the club can be measured by the number of young athletes who have progressed to local clubs in the borough for further coaching - at the last count this was around 30 students.

Cllr Terry Clements, Portfolio Holder for Sport and Leisure said:

“This is a fantastic opportunity for young people to get involved in athletics, get fit, make new friends and enjoy themselves. St Edmundsbury is very keen to nurture the sporting talent of young people in the borough. With the help of this programme they can get the coaching to help them go further at a regional and national level.”

If you’d like the chance to shine in athletics, why not come along to the Dome at King Edward School in Bury St Edmunds at 10am (excluding Easter Saturday) suitably dressed for two hours of running, jumping and games. From Saturday 2 April the sessions will take place at the West Suffolk Athletics Arena at Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre on Beetons Way. Each session is £2.30 per person.

For further information please contact the Bury Leisure Centre Reception on 01284 753496.
