The Tourist Information Centre is history!

9 September, 2004

Staff at the Bury St Edmunds Record Office have been delving into the history of number 6 Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds and have come up with some interesting findings.

It seems that the current home of Bury St Edmunds Tourist Information Centre has had a colourful past. Over the years it has been a school and a doctors' surgery before it was purchased by St Edmundsbury Borough Council in 1985.

The Record Office would like to share the findings with as many people as possible and are planning a display in the Tourist Information Centre to coincide with the national 'Heritage Open Days' period. From this Friday until the end of September, visitors will be able to trace the building's history from the 17th century through to the present day. Opening hours are Monday to Saturday 9.30am to 5.30pm and Sunday 10am to 3pm.

For more information on the findings of the Record Office, or to research the history of your own property, please call 01284 352352. For more information on the Tourist Information Centre or the exhibition please call the TIC manager, Sharon Fairweather, on 01284 764667.
