Friday 13 May: Launch of BurySOUND 2005: The Band Competition, at the opening night of the Bury St Edmunds Festival in the Abbey Gardens, Bury St Edmunds from 6.30pm.
It’s that time of year again when budding bands from all over the borough come together to entertain the crowds of fans as they compete for the much acclaimed BurySOUND 2005 title.
This is the eighth year of the competition which will be launched by 2004 Band Competition winners, The Secret Hairdresser, at the opening night of the Bury St Edmunds Festival in the Abbey Gardens on Friday 13 May. 2004 finalists Ashborn will also be playing.
If you want to enter this year’s competition, pick up an application pack at the launch event on the Friday night or from Monday 16 May download a copy on line at www.stedmundsbury.gov.uk by following the link from the home page or contact Jackie Smith on 01284 757077 for a hard copy. The deadline for entries is Friday 29 July 2005.
The Band Competition gives 12 St Edmundsbury based bands the opportunity to play in a prestigious venue with a professional setup. Even though the event has an overall winner, the aim of the competition is much more about developing the local music scene and talent within St Edmundsbury. This is reflected in the enthusiastic and dedicated attitude of the sell-out crowds which are attracted to the competition.
