One of the region's most popular visitor attractions will be throwing open its doors for free for two days designed to give an insight into Anglo-Saxon life.
The 'Understanding West Stow' days will take place on Saturday 15 and Sunday 16 March at the West Stow Anglo-Saxon Village. Not only will visitors have full access to the unique Anglo-Saxon Village and archaeological collections but can also meet and mingle with Stowacynn, West Stow's own Anglo-Saxon family. Stowacynn wear authentic costume and live and work in the village, just as our ancestors would have done 1500 years ago.
Cllr Lynsey Alexander, St Edmundsbury's Cabinet member for Culture and Sport, said:
"These days are a real experience. They bring Anglo-Saxon culture to life in a vivid and very enjoyable way. They are great fun for families, discovering how life now differs in some respects but is much the same in others. I'm very pleasedthat this nationally important archaeological site is available to local people and I hope that lots come along and explore the village – for free."
