Haverhill Centre for Voluntary Agencies celebrates opening

5 October, 2004

Photo opportunity: 12.30pm on Wednesday 6 October – Deputy Mayor of St Edmundsbury, Cllr David Lockwood, will officially open the Haverhill Centre for Voluntary Agencies, at St Edmundsbury’s Council Offices, Lower Downs Slade, Haverhill.

Since the Haverhill Centre for Voluntary Agencies came together under one roof in July this year, local people have been reaping the benefits of this one stop centre which will be officially opened at St Edmundsbury’s council offices in Lower Downs Slade on Wednesday 6 October.

The five organisations, which include the Haverhill Association of Voluntary Organisations (HAVO), Haverhill Advocacy and Mentoring Service (HAMS), Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB), Haverhill Volunteer Centre (HVC) and 3 County Transport (3CT), have quickly taken advantage of the many benefits of working in the same building.

Maria Mason, Manager of HAMS said:

“Since moving the extra space and comfortable surroundings has meant we have been able to extend our range of services. We currently host a parenting group which includes crèche facilities and we’ve been able to offer support to more children and young people in our newly furnished multi-purpose room made possible with a donation from the Haverhill Round Table.”

Mick Smith, Secretary of HAVO said:

“This move has already shown signs of success and all five organisations have come together on a number of occasions to discuss issues that affect us all. To be able to chat to colleagues face to face has made communication much better and we have already begun to share skills, resources and ideas. That is enough of a benefit to make the whole project worthwhile let alone the modern offices we have been provided with. Thank you and well done St Edmundsbury.”

Cllr Sara Mildmay-White, Cabinet member for Resources said:

“The Haverhill Centre for Voluntary Agencies is such a first rate asset to Haverhill as it gives people the chance to access a range of services in one place. We wish the organisations every success in the future as they continue to welcome people through their doors.”
