Work has recently been completed on the installation of new bollards on Abbeygate Street in Bury St Edmunds, to allow the road to close to traffic on Sundays.
As the work has been finished earlier than planned, the new start date for the road to be closed to traffic on Sundays is 15 August (not 5 September). This means that Abbeygate Street will be closed from its junction with the Buttermarket to its junction with Angel Hill between 6am on Saturday and 7am on Monday, as well as the usual closure between 10am and 4pm on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays and 6am and 6pm on Wednesdays.
Traffic crossing Abbeygate Street from High Baxter Street into Hatter Street and from Lower Baxter Street into Angel Lane will still be permitted. Provision will also be made for businesses to carry out maintenance work and for stock delivery and collection in Abbeygate Street.
The scheme will be experimental for a period of one year and reviewed after six months. If you have any queries please contact Jacky Martin, Traffic and Transport Officer at St Edmundsbury Borough Council, on 01284 757328.
