Local children from Newmarket were the triumphant winners of this year’s Ring Quest, a Lord of the Rings themed family challenge event which took place during February half-term at West Stow Country Park.
Samuel and Rhia Townsend were the lucky winners, beating off competition from hundreds of families from as far afield as Kent and Bedfordshire.
Samuel and Rhia (aged 10 and 8), were delighted with their prize of two jigsaw puzzles featuring characters from Lord of the Rings. Samuel said,
“We were really excited when we heard we’d won. We’ve visited the Anglo-Saxon Village nine times and done the Ring Quest twice. We always think the Ring Quest is good fun but this year was the best because we won the prize!”
The Ring Quest was more popular than ever this year, with over 240 families taking part. Due to its continuing popularity another Ring Quest has been scheduled for February 2008.
In the meantime there are many other exciting events coming up at West Stow, including the Heritage Fayre on 8 and 9 April, with market stalls from the Saxon, Norman and Viking periods and a chance for visitors to take part in the immensely popular Dark Age Games.
