Building work will start on Monday 11 October on a new single reception area for Revenues and Benefits at the council offices in St Edmundsbury House, Western Way, Bury St Edmunds.
From this date the Benefits reception area will be temporarily located in the Council Tax interview room, next to the cashiers’ desk. Both the Benefits and Revenues Service will be fully operational from 9am on 11 October.
Combining the two services, which are currently at different ends of the building, will mean that customers with queries about Council Tax, business rates, sundry debts, homelessness, housing and Council Tax benefits will be able to access this information in one place. Payment of Council Tax and queries about planning issues will still be dealt with in the existing reception area.
Councillor Sara Mildmay-White, Cabinet member for Resources said:
“Although there will be a certain amount of inconvenience whilst building work is carried out, which we apologise for, it will be worth it as the end result will be a much improved service for our customers who will be able to access our services more easily in the future.”
It is anticipated that the new reception area will be finished by Christmas.
