Free advice at the St Edmundsbury Historic Homes Show

4 June, 2008

Historic home owners across Suffolk can pick up free expert advice at St Edmundsbury Borough Council’s Historic Homes Show, being held from 10am to 4pm at the Athenaeum in Bury St Edmunds on Saturday 14 June.

The event brings together professionals, suppliers and historical organisations under one roof to tackle the complex range of issues faced by historic home owners. There will be practical demonstrations of wattle and daub repairs and pargetting, and talks on thatching, timber framing, plastering, the architectural history of your house and how to research its social history.

Describing the show, Cllr Terry Clements, Cabinet member for Conservation said

“It is about ideas and finding the right people to bring them to life. House make-over TV shows often make the point that the people you use can make or break a dream. The aim of this event is to inform and inspire historic home owners so that they can help to conserve our heritage.”

Christine Leveson, Conservation Officer at St Edmundsbury Borough Council said

“East Anglia is rich in historic buildings. To preserve them for the future, it is vital to approach their repair, maintenance and alteration sympathetically. This means appointing the right professionals for the job. Home owners can use this event to widen their contacts, to meet our team, and to meet one another”.
