Last chance to have your say on the St Edmundsbury Local Plan

4 March, 2005

Residents living in the borough are being urged to have their say on St Edmundsbury’s new long term plan for development, the Local Plan, by coming to one of the exhibitions taking place during March and April. This will be the final opportunity to comment on the Plan before it goes to a public inquiry later this year.

The Local Plan sets out the Council’s long term policies and proposals for the development and

use of land in St Edmundsbury. This includes identifying suitable land for jobs, shops, schools and roads.  The exhibitions kicked off this week and give people the opportunity to meet officers from St Edmundsbury and ask questions about the plan. Exhibitions will take place in Bury St Edmunds, Haverhill and rural areas until 11 April.

Cllr Jeremy Farthing, portfolio holder for Economy and Environment said:

“These exhibitions provide an excellent opportunity for people to find out more about the Local Plan and influence the content of this important document. As this is the last time the Plan goes out for public consultation, we would urge and encourage people to come along and air their views as their input is vital to its success.”

The Local Plan is due to be adopted around June 2006.

If you are unable to attend an exhibition but wish to contribute your views, you can fill in a comments form on our website, www.stedmundsbury.gov.uk or contact the Planning Policy team to request a form to be sent to you in the post. Telephone 01284 757364/757342, email localplan@stedsbc.gov.uk or write to Planning Policy, Planning and Engineering Services, St Edmundsbury Borough Council, PO Box 122, Bury St Edmunds, Suffolk, IP33 3YS. Your views must reach us no later than 5pm on Monday 11 April.

You can view the Local Plan in Borough Council offices, local libraries and on our website at the above address. It is available on a free CD-Rom or to buy as a document.
