Work to install traffic calming measures in Hardwick Lane, Bury St Edmunds is due to begin next Monday (9 July).
As part of the scheme, eight road humps will be installed and a 20mph speed limit will be introduced. This new limit will stretch between Hardwick Lane’s junctions with Vinery Road and Horsecroft Road.
Diversions will be in place directing traffic along Vinery Road, Horringer Road and Horsecroft Road. The road will remain open to pedestrians and cyclists.
Cllr Terry Clements, portfolio holder for Transport and Planning, said:
“These works show that we have listened carefully to the opinions of everyone who commented on the changes at Hardwick Lane and Gypsy Lane. This traffic calming scheme will strike the right balance between the needs of residents, drivers and pedestrians and will provide a good long-term solution to the issues which have arisen in the area.”
Hardwick Lane will remain one-way until work is complete. Drivers who are caught ignoring the regulations could face a fine and have penalty points added to their licence.
Work is expected to take two to three weeks.
