An enthralling evening of saga, firelight, food and waes hael is being held at West Stow, on Friday 24 October, with a telling of Beowulf. The spell-binding experience is being hosted by Anglo-Saxon expert Dr Sam Newton in the atmospheric setting of an Anglo-Saxon village reconstructed on its original ancient heath land site.
Dr Newton vividly sets the scene by explaining the origins of Beowulf, the Old English epic poem of heroes and monsters. After a buffet meal, guests take a short candlelit walk to the fire-lit Anglo-Saxon Hall. Costumed Anglo-Saxons and lyre music greet them and amid the dancing firelight, the crackling of logs and sweet scent of wood smoke, Dr Newton gives a masterful performance from the Beowulf saga, recreating the way the epic tale was first heard around 1,500 years ago.
The event takes place from 7pm to 9.45pm. Tickets cost £30 including a welcome drink and buffet meal. Booking is essential. Please call 01284 728718 and have your debit or credit card details ready. This is a very popular event so book now to avoid disappointment!
