There is a great day out at the first food market being held at West Stow Country Park and Anglo-Saxon Village on Sunday 9 September. Visitors can sample a wide range of delicious local produce, explore the Anglo-Saxon village, watch costumed re-enactors and enjoy the beautiful country park, all for free. West Stow also has a large, free car park, and excellent adventure playground, providing fun for the whole family.
The food market features fine food and drink from East Anglian producers, many of whom come from West Suffolk. The stalls will offer the freshest fruit, bread, cakes, cheese, pies, vegetables, salads and honey plus locally brewed beer and a selection of hot food to fill the hungriest shopper!
Cllr Lynsey Alexander, St Edmundsbury Borough Council Portfolio Holder for Culture and Sports said:
“West Stow is the perfect venue for a food market. There is great interest in locally produced, high quality food and markets like this allow people to choose how they eat, contribute to the local economy and keep food miles down. This will also be great fun and make an excellent free day out.”
Entrance to the Anglo-Saxon Village is free on both Saturday 8 and Sunday 9 September with costumed re-enactors living as Anglo-Saxons in the village on both days.
It’s hoped that the food market will become a regular event at West Stow, with markets in the spring and autumn of each year.
