Buying best value

2 August, 2004

St Edmundsbury is undertaking a procurement review which will have an impact on the local community by ensuring your Council Tax will deliver best value on purchasing.

The review is looking at issues such as the balance between buying local and national goods; what environmental impact its buying has, and how it can be improved; and what benefits there are to the community by developing a consistent and value-for-money procurement strategy across the whole council.

Individuals with an interest in procurement, along with those who supply services and products to St Edmundsbury, are being invited to send in their comments by 16 August. It will then be considered by councillors before being adopted as formal council policy.

Areas the review covers includes allocating responsibility for procurement within the council by; developing buying on-line; providing a "Selling to the council" guide for suppliers and working with partners to make the most of joint buying power. If you wish to comment on the consultation document, it is available on the council website: www.stedmundsbury.gov.uk
