Over 1000 St Edmundsbury school children will be learning vital life-lessons at Crucial Crew 2007 this month.
Year six children aged between ten and 11 years, from 16 schools, will come together at Samuel Ward Upper School in Haverhill to experience various scenarios, staffed by experts who show children how to deal with potentially dangerous situations to protect both themselves and others. The fire service will simulate what it is like being in a burning house and electricity suppliers EDF will explain the dangerous forces at work on their premises. As well as fire and electrical safety, the focus is also on road safety, food safety, personal safety and personal wellbeing.
Cllr Sara Mildmay-White, Portfolio Holder for Community, said:
“We know from feedback that children have been able to use these lessons to protect themselves and other family members in threatening situations. Crucial Crew is organised in partnership with a wide range of voluntary and statutory services, and I would like to thank all of them for their invaluable contributions.”
The scheme runs from Tuesday 3 to Thursday 12 July and sixth formers at the school are helping to run the event as part of their work experience.
