New fitness clubs for people with disabilities

1 September, 2004

Photo opportunity: Ipswich Town Football Club player will be launching the new club at Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre on Friday 10 September at 2pm

Two new fitness clubs at Bury St Edmunds and Haverhill will give people the chance to get active whatever their ability or disability.

The new clubs will be held on Fridays at the Bury St Edmunds Leisure Centre and on Tuesdays at the Haverhill Leisure Centre. They are open to everyone with any sort of disability - including physical or learning disabilities - and members will be able to try out sport and gentle exercise as well as enjoying the chance to socialise. Sports on offer will include swimming, football, cricket, basketball, table tennis, Bocca (a seated version of petangue or boules) and racket games.

The clubs are a partnership of Suffolk County Council, the Leisure Centres and the Sport and Leisure Disability Forum. Tickets can be purchased at the Leisure Centres on the day and cost from £1.60 for a single activity, £3 for a morning or afternoon or £5 for a full day. For more information contact Leslie Cowie, Sports Development Manager, on 01284 757480 or 01440 710504.
