Businesses in west Suffolk are invited to learn more about different cultures and faiths at a conference in Bury St Edmunds on 16 March.
Delegates will hear from a business panel how they deal with issues of identity in a discussion called ‘What’s diversity like for me?’. There will also be workshops, including information about the make-up of the local community, and a chance to meet people from different backgrounds.
The event, at the Corn Exchange, is supported by several employers and local organisations including St Edmundsbury Borough Council, Suffolk County Council, WestSuffolkCollege, WestSuffolkHospital, Havebury Housing, St Edmundsbury Cathedral, Bury Volunteer Centre, West Suffolk Primary Care Trust and the chambers of commerce in Bury and Haverhill. The main organiser is SIFRE, Suffolk Inter-Faith Resource, based in Ipswich.
St Edmundsbury Chief Executive, Deborah Cadman, said:
"Even though we live in a multi-cultural society unfortunately we can forget how important these issues are. As a result, we often get things wrong with results which can be damaging for individuals, for the community and for businesses."
Tickets, costing £15, are available from Annabelle Bryant at the borough council. Telephone 01284 757061 or email annabelle.bryant@stedsbc.gov.uk
