Film winners announced

1 March, 2010

The winners of the 'Made in Haverhill: Cineworld CB9 Youth Film Initiative 2010' were announced at a gala screening of the shortlisted entries before an audience of family, friends and supporters at Cineworld, Haverhill last night.

Film makers James Pilley (director), Jack Morgan (producer) and Hannah Jones (actor) from Castle Manor Business and Enterprise College collected an annual unlimited cinema pass from Paul Willden, General Manager at headline sponsors Cineworld Haverhill, for their entry 'Red Handed'.

The event was also supported by The Design Office, Haverhill Arts Centre, Haverhill Town Centre Management and St Edmundsbury Borough Council. The competition called for films up to five minutes in length made by young people aged 13 to 19 years, about any aspect of Haverhill. Seven films were shortlisted and all received prizes.

Paul Willden, General Manager of Cineworld, Haverhill, said

"The judges were impressed by the commitment shown by the entrants. They started out with very different levels of experience and all of them turned in creditable entries. The experience has been a real journey and they have learned valuable skills.  We are very pleased that they took on the challenge and hope that they continue making films successfully.

Cllr Anne Gower, St Edmundsbury Borough Council Cabinet member for Haverhill said,

"The initiative demonstrates the considerable talent among young people in Haverhill. Film making is a new form of literacy in our increasingly visual world but however available technology may be, it is no substitute for the team working and communications skills these entrants have acquired."
