Bury St Edmunds sparkles in this year’s Anglia in Bloom

23 September, 2005

Bury St Edmunds has come away with a double achievement in this year’s Anglia in Bloom competition, with judges awarding gold in the Best Large Town category as well as being voted the cleanest town out of all the entrants.

It is the first time that Bury St Edmunds has scooped gold in the competition. The good news comes only a few weeks after the AbbeyGardens achieved best park in East Anglia, as part of the Britain’s BestPark competition.

In other award categories, Cavendish won silver in the BestVillage category and Clare received the silver award for BestLargeVillage.

Cllr John Griffiths, Leader of the Council said:

“I am absolutely delighted by this news and would like to congratulate and thank everyone, especially the landscape and cleansing crews who helped us to win these awards.  I am particularly pleased that we were not only voted the best large town but the cleanest town too, which recognises the enormous amount of effort and enthusiasm our cleansing staff put into cleaning up litter and keeping the town looking its best all year round.”
