All over the country historic buildings will be throwing open their doors and inviting visitors to explore during Heritage Open Days.
In and around Bury St Edmunds around 23 places will be open between Thursday 8 and Sunday 11 September, helping to celebrate England's cultural and architectural heritage. The event is co-ordinated by the Civic Trust and involves some buildings which are not usually open to the public, along with others which are normally open at a cost. Entry is free during Heritage Open Days, but some places need to be booked.
Some of this year's highlights include:
- a tour of the Cupola House, in Bury St Edmunds;
- a guided walk of Greene King flood meadows; and
- a tour with the lead gardener at Wyken Hall, in Stanton.
Details of what's open and how to book places where necessary are available in a leaflet which can be picked up from the Tourist Information Centre on Angel Hill, Bury St Edmunds - or call the TIC on 01284 764667.
