Guidelines for Speed Management in Suffolk

Speeding road traffic is a subject that concerns most people in Suffolk and managing the speed of traffic is essential in reducing the number of casualties on the road network. Effective speed management also helps to reduce anxiety for people living in Suffolk.

The document Guidelines for Speed Management in Suffolk provides a set of guidelines for members of the public as well as councillors. It sets out a fair and consistent approach and defines:

  • the organisations involved in keeping the roads in Suffolk safe;
  • the processes involved in deciding when speed management measures should be used;
  • what speed management measures can be used within the county in different locations; and
  • what might happen in the future.

What you need to do if you have a problem with speeding in your area

  • You should in the first instance contact Customer Services Direct. They will log your request and pass details to an administrator who will collate all the available data.
  • This information will then be considered by the speed management panel who considers all of the information relating to the location, such as the posted speed limit, collected speed data and the road layout. This ensures that all requests are treated fairly and that the best speed management solution is applied for any particular location.
  • They then decide the most appropriate course of action.
  • You will be advised of the outcome at the earliest opportunity
