Rural Action Plan

Rural Action Plan header

The borough council is one of the few district local authorities within the country to have produced a Rural Action Plan to help deliver projects in our rural areas. These projects aim to contribute to the preservation and enhancement of the social, economic and environmental well-being of rural St Edmundsbury.

Our first three-year Rural Action Plan was approved in 2004: Rural Services Review final report and Rural Action Plan (PDF 344Kb)

Our current, and second, Rural Action Plan covers the period from 2008 to 2011. This document was approved in March 2008.

The Rural Action Plan is based upon three themes:

  • People
  • Places
  • Prosperity

Within these themes are four linking initiatives. They are to:

  • create quieter and safer village roads;
  • improve community accessibility;
  • maintain and enhance the quality of the environment; and
  • promote stronger and sustainable rural communities.
