Out-of-hours

St Edmundsbury Borough Council does not have a formal stand-by service to respond to complaints of noise made outside normal office hours. However, environmental health officers will investigate noise complaints at night or early morning either by arrangement with the complainant, or when the nature of the noise satisfies certain criteria.

If you are disturbed by noise when the council's offices are closed you can phone 01284 763252 to report the disturbance. This is the council's emergency out-of-hours telephone number and is staffed 24 hours a day. Complaints are referred to an Environmental Health Officer when:

  • they are made by the Police;
  • three or more complaints are made in respect of the same disturbance;
  • your complaint is already being investigated by Environmental Health and is listed with the emergency out-of-hours staff.

In all other circumstances complaints will be faxed through to Environmental Health and Housing Services the next working day.
