Open and Derelict Buildings

St Edmundsbury Borough Council may board-up unoccupied building where they are not effectively secured against unauthorised entry or are likely to become a danger to public health.

The above power is given to Councils in Section 29 of the Local Government (Miscellaneous Provisions) Act 1982.  Normally, St Edmundsbury Borough Council would serve a Notice on each owner of the building specifying the works it proposes to undertake, although in some circumstances we may carry out these works immediately.

All reasonably incurred expenses will be recovered in undertaking the necessary works.
