Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest

9.11 English Heritage has compiled a Register of Parks and Gardens of Special Historic Interest. The historic interest can derive from a combination of the layout, the planting and the views into and out of the garden. The Borough Council will ensure that any new development is not harmful to the character of an historic park or garden or to its setting. In addition to those on the Register, there are many others of local interest. The Borough Council will also seek to protect these when considering proposals.

ii) the impact on features, both built and natural, which form an integral part of the design and layout; and
iii) the impact on views into and out of the park or garden, particularly those which are an integral part of the design.
