13. Bury St EdmundsA Vision for Bury St Edmunds13.1 With a population of around 35,500 Bury St Edmunds
plays an important role in the regional economy. The town is
a sub-regional employment and service centre serving a
wide, largely rural hinterland and is well placed to benefit
from the growth along the A14 Cambridge to Ipswich
corridor. This Local Plan promotes the sustainable growth of
the town which, at the same time, maintains and enhances
the important historic core, the rural landscape and the local
distinctiveness of surrounding villages. Bury St Edmunds will strengthen its role as a sub-regional centre serving western Suffolk and will grow in a balanced and sustainable manner which respects the historic and environmental constraints of the area. |
