Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act 1990

 

Part IIA of the Environmental Protection Act 1990 (amended by Section 57 of the Environment Act 1995) came in force in April 2000, introducing a new regime for the identification and remediation of contaminated land.

Part IIA places duties on local authorities and the Environment Agency as joint regulators. Each local authority must publish a formal inspection strategy detailing how it will carry out its new inspection duties under Part IIA, taking into account specific local conditions. This council's Contaminated Land Strategy was reviewed and updated in 2005 to account of our progress to identify and investigate potentially contaminated land.
