Below are details of organisations that can provide advice and/or information if you are having problems paying your mortgage.

 

Citizens Advice Bureau (CAB)

Help to resolve any legal, money, welfare benefits issues or other problems. Find your nearest CAB at Citizens Advice or under "C" in you local phone directory, and use Advice Guide for further contacts and information.

Community Legal Advice

Provides legal advice in England and Wales on 0845 3454 345 or visit Community Legal Advice

Consumer Credit Counselling Service

Offers assistance in resolving multiple debts on 0800 138 1111 or visit Consumer Credit Counselling Service

Council of Mortgage Lenders

Represents the interests of most mortgage providers. It does not provide advice but has useful information on mortgages; see Council of Mortgage Lenders.

Financial Services Authority (FSA)

Operates a consumer helpline on 0845 606 1234 and produces a series of guides on how to manage your money - Financial Services Authority (FSA).

Financial Services Ombudsman

Aims to settle unresolved disputes between customers and mortgage providers. For information call 0845 080 1800 or visit Financial Services Ombudsman.

Land Registry

Has details of the ownership of registered land and property. For a small fee you can find out who is the owner of a property at Land Registry

National Debtline

Debt solutions and debt advice on 0800 917 7823 or visit Payplan

Shelter

Free housing advice helpline on 0808 800 4444*, open 8am-8pm seven days a week and includes help on related mortgage debt or welfare benefits issues. Alternatively visit Shelter (*note: some mobile phone networks may charge for calls to this number.)

Check if you are eligible  for help with council tax bills either by contacting St Edmundsbury Borough Council benefits section or Jobcentre Plus on 0800 055 6688.
