The landscape team carries out a broad range of grounds maintenance work within St Edmundsbury and undertakes work not only for the borough council, but also for housing associations and parish councils.
The landscape team is made up of three smaller teams, each of which has a designated area of responsibility:
- The Abbey Gardeners: based in, and responsible for, the Abbey Gardens. However they also carry out the maintenance of a number of satellite gardens such as the Tourist Information Centre and the Borough Offices on Angel Hill.
- The Bury St Edmunds team: based at the council offices at Western Way, they cover the majority of Bury St Edmunds along with villages ranging from Wickhambrook in the South to Barnham in the North.
- The Haverhill team: based at the Reeds Lane depot in Haverhill, this team covers the whole of Haverhill and the remaining villages south of Wickhambrook.
Landscape staff carry out a range of grounds maintenance work including:
- clearing leaves;
- floral bedding;
- grass cutting (highway verges, public open space and recreation grounds);
- green waste removal;
- hanging baskets and planters;
- hedge maintenance;
- landscaping;
- laying turf;
- looking after the birds in the aviary at the Abbey Gardens;
- minor tree surgery;
- planting up and transporting planters to various locations;
- play equipment repairs;
- shrub pruning;
- sports pitch maintenance; and
- weed spraying (public open spaces).
