St Edmundsbury Borough Council has recognised for many years that employing a sustainable approach to our activities brings economic as well as environmental and social benefits.

In 2003, we adopted our Environmental Policy which set out our commitment to improving our environmental performance.  We developed a managed approach to ensure compliance and ongoing improvement in our environmental performance which meets the international ISO14001:2004 standard.

Our Sustainability Commitment is closely linked to our commitment to promoting equality and diversity.  We are committed to advancing equality, valuing diversity and opposing unfair treatment. We aim to ensure that our services are accessible and our recruitment and employment practices fair.  We assess how our policies and actions could affect marginalised and disadvantaged groups and consider necessary action.

We strengthened our commitment in 2007 with the adoption of Our Sustainability Policy. (PDF 711KB)
