Why be energy efficent

Global warming is a topic which is in the news more and more. It is widely believed by scientists that global warming is caused by greenhouse gases rising up into the atmosphere creating a blanket around the earth - therefore trapping heat. This is a modern day problem because the most significant greenhouse gas, carbon dioxide, is created by burning fossil fuels such as coal, gas and oil.

We are highly dependant on fossil fuels, for example, natural gas and oil is used for heating our homes, a proportion of electricity generated is by coal fired power stations, and petrol and diesel is used to run our cars.

The level of Carbon Dioxide in the earth's atmosphere is increasing rapidly, and the effects this will have on the world's climate is largely unknown.

So you may be asking how much am I contributing to greenhouse gas emissions?  Well, to give an indication, Best Foot Forward calculates your estimated carbon dioxide production in a year.

Simply by changing our lifestyles a little, we can use energy more efficiently and wisely without affecting our quality of life.

The page on energy saving tips offers examples of simple methods to reduce energy consumption, whilst saving money too!
