Dust

Many complaints received by the local authority in respect of dust are the result of:

  • construction activities
  • demolition activities

especially on very dry sites during the summer months. The emission of dust from sites can cause a nuisance to adjacent occupiers, preventing them from opening their windows, hanging out washing or enjoying their gardens. Dampening down sites with water is a very simple way of controlling dust, particularly in areas where there are vehicle movements.

It is not always possible to locate the cause of the dust emission. In these circumstances Environmental Health and Housing may ask you to keep a record of the deposits, noting the wind direction on each occasion, to help us identify the source.
