Council Tax, Business Rates and benefits

Everyone has heard of the rates, but nowadays rates are only paid on business premises. The tax levied on your home is called the Council Tax, and if you are on a low income you may qualify to receive Council Tax Benefit. If you pay rent you may also be eligible for Housing Benefit to help pay this.

Information on the Business Rates, the Council Tax and Council Tax and Housing Benefits can be found by clicking on the topics at the left hand side of this screen.

Businesses can find out their own rateable values, and there is advice for small businesses or charities who may be struggling to survive.

Council Tax payers can find out about this tax and how to pay. You can also notify us online if you move house.

Using the links shown on this page to the Benefits Service you will be able to quickly calculate whether you would be eligible for benefit before applying and download the claim form if you wish to apply. You can also notify the Benefits Service of a change in your circumstances on line.
