Councillors, meetings and committee papers

Borough councillors are elected by the people of St Edmundsbury and are accountable for the services provided by the borough council. They decide what services to provide and how much money to spend on them. They are elected by local communities so that they can:
  • help local people to get information about services
  • use their local knowledge and views to help to make decisions
  • represent the interests of residents
  • check the quality of borough council services delivered locally.
Councillors are normally members of a political party but may stand for election as independent candidates. Of 45 borough councillors in St Edmundsbury:
  • 36 are Conservative
  • 4 are LLINK
  • 3 are Liberal Democrat
  • 2 are Labour
This section of our website provides information on borough councillors and the decision making processes of the council. Copies of committee papers are available free of charge by clicking on 'Cabinet and Committee Structure' above. However if you would like to receive a hard copy by post there are specified charges (PDF 15Kb) depending on which committee you are interested in.

The council’s decision making processes are governed by its Constitution.
