The council recognise that it has a key role to play both through mitigation and adaptation measures in response to a changing climate. The council's review carried out in 2006 showed that it has a key role to play including manager of our own estate, as a service provider and as a community leader. Key sectors where the council exert an influence include housing, transport, waste, water, energy generation, health, economic activity, community and business resilience, and habitats and wildlife/habitat management. The council can also have a direct influence on future building and infrastructure development by setting planning policy to deliver improvements in energy and water efficiency, uptake of renewable energy, and climate adaptation.
The council has developed an action plan and is working with other organisations in the Suffolk Climate Change Partnership. We are active participants in delivering the Suffolk Climate Action Plan and work with others within the Suffolk - Creating the Greenest County programme to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and build a climate resilient Suffolk.
