Councillors allowances

The Independent Remuneration Panel (IRP) is charged with recommending changes to the Members' Allowance Scheme, which details the payments that a Councillor may receive for undertaking their duties.  The IRP met on 7 September, 21 and 29 November 2011 and made a number of recommendations to full Council. View the current Members allowances scheme (PDF 44Kb)

Generally the IRP is recommending the continuation of the current practice whereby the Councillor's basic allowance is linked to any staff pay award percentage increase and that subsistence allowances also remain linked to those given to staff for four years up until 30 November 2015. Some changes to the special responsibility allowances are also recommended.

A full copy of the report from the IRP was be presented to full Council on 13 December 2011 and can be viewed at: C257 Ind Remuneration Panel Report - Recs for Mem Allowances 2011-2012 & Future Years
