Business Rates are also known as NNDR which stands for National Non-Domestic Rates.
Business Rates are payable by businesses who occupy non-domestic properties.
The Business Rates section deals with the collection of Business Rates in accordance with the Local Government Finance Act 1988 and 1992 and subsequent legislation.
This includes:
- issuing bills
- reminders
- summonses
It deals with:
- changes of address
- discounts
- exemptions
The amount you pay depends on the Rateable Value of the property, set by the Valuation Office Agency and shown on the local rating list. The VOA has issued a press release (PDF 26Kb) and advice leaflet (PDF 114Kb) warning small businesses about some unscrupulous rating agents acting in advance of the business rate revaluation. They claim they can save firms' money but often end up costing more through the fees they charge.
You can:
- pay online
- tell us online if you are moving in or out of the property
- download forms and leaflets
If you have difficulties paying your Business Rates bill, you should check if you are entitled to discount, such as:
Details of discount and exemption are shown in the list of Business Rates forms and leaflets
