Stray dogs

Dogs should not be allowed to stray. Any dog found straying by the Animal Warden, or reported straying to the Animal Warden by a member of the public, will be collected and taken to the kennels where it will be held for seven days.

Before the dog can be returned to its owner a statutory fee of £25 must be paid to St Edmundsbury Borough Council and any other costs that may have been incurred (kennelling fee, vets fee, transportation costs).

A breakdown of the dog fees are as follows:

Prescribed fee (statutory)  £25 (No VAT)
 Seizure fee  £10 (+ VAT)
 Administration charge  £8 (+ VAT)
Transfer to kennel  £11.79 (+ VAT)
 Veterinary treatment  As per account

It should be noted that the above costs do not include the cost of kennelling. When the dog is held at a boarding kennel, kennelling costs will have to be settled separately by you prior to release.

To report a straying dog contact the Animal Warden by phone on 01284 757058 or email env.health@stedsbc.gov.uk.
