Temporary road closures in Bury St Edmunds

It is a function of the Highway Authority to keep the public highway accessible to the public at all times. If it is necessary to close a road temporarily, a Traffic Regulation Order has to be made by the Authority. Road closures may be required for different reasons and the procedure varies accordingly. Please complete the relevant application form below if you need to apply for a road closure.

  1. For a temporary road closure to enable utility and other works on the highway: Temporary road closure application form (PDF 495Kb)

Peckham Street

Temporary road closure to enable works to install a new gas connection.The closure is to be for two days commencing on Tuesday 9 March.

West Road
A temporary road closure has been arranged for West Road (from its junction with Westley Road to a point approximately 80 metres south of its junction with Queen's Road/Westbury Avenue). The closure is to enable carriageway resurfacing works to take place. The works are for maintenance and in conjunction with the construction of a zebra crossing. The closure will be for a period of two days commencing Thursday 4 March 2010.
 
 
Peckham Street

To enable works on behalf of BT to excavate the footpath to lay new ducts. The junction  is with Ipswich Street and its junction with St Andrew's Street North.

Westgate Street

Closure of part of Westgate Street (between St Mary's Square and Maynewater Lane) for up to four weeks, to enhance and add a footpath.

The one-way restrictions on this part of the road are suspended for the duration of the works to allow access. It will be done in two stages.

This Order shall be operative for a period of four weeks commencing Tuesday 23 February 2010 or until the work is complete.

Lawson Place  

A traffic regulation order is being prepared for the temporary closure of the footway/cycleway on the north side of Lawson Place adjacent the rear of the Moreton Hall Public House for a distance of approximately 50 metres. The closure is to safely enable the construction of a foul sewer and storm water drainage diversions within the existing cycleway.

It is intended the footway will be closed for a period of up to four weeks commencing Monday 4 January 2010. The diversion route is as the attached map.
