Temporary road closures in Bury St Edmunds

It is a function of the Highway Authority to keep the public highway accessible to the public at all times. If it is necessary to close a road temporarily, a Traffic Regulation Order has to be made by the Authority. Road closures may be required for different reasons and the procedure varies accordingly. Please complete the relevant application form below if you need to apply for a road closure.

Short Brackland

It is intended that the above road will be closed for a period of five days commencing on or soon after Monday 22 September 2008, weather permitting.Short Brackland to enable connection to sewers.

Provision will be made at all times for the passage of pedestrians and cyclists. Vehicular access to all properties adjacent to the road will be maintained.

Guildhall Street

Temporary road closure of Guildhall Street to replace water services, starting on the Tuesday of week commencing Monday 8 September 2008.

The work is continuous starting on the Tuesday 9.30am, weather dependant.

A temporary road closure for two days Peckham Street.  The closure is to enable carriageway resurfacing.  Works will start week commencing Monday 11 August 2008.

The one-way restriction in Peckham Street will be suspended for the duration of the closure.

Hatter Street

A temporary road closure has been arranged for Hatter Street on Monday 28 July for one day to replace water services (water meter).

The one-way restriction in Hatter Street will be suspended for the duration of the works to allow access for residents and businesses in Hatter Street only.  The diversion routes are as the attached map, please enlarge it to 100% for clarity.
 
The prohibition of vehicles in Abbeygate Street is suspended to allow diverted traffic to flow from Lower Baxter Street, Abbeygate Street, Angel Lane, Churchgate Street.

St Andrews Street South

A temporary road closure has been arranged for St Andrews Street South, between its junction with Risbygate Street/Brentgovel Street and its junction with Woolhall Street, to enable enhancement works to be undertaken to the highway and utility works in conjunction with this, prior to the completion of the adjacent cattlemarket development.

The closure commenced on Monday 21 July for a period of up to eighteen weeks.

Pump Lane

Works have taken place in Pump Lane to widen the footway and to resurface the footway. A further one day closure will take place to resurface the highway to complete the works
