Supporting People

Supporting People is a national programme funded by central Government. Supporting People in Suffolk is a working partnership of local government, probation, health, voluntary sector organisations, housing associations, support agencies and service users.

Supporting People in Suffolk support over 9,000 people including:

  • homeless people;
  • older people with support needs;
  • people escaping domestic violence;
  • people who have recently come out of prison or are at risk of offending;
  • people with drug or alcohol problems;
  • people with learning disabilities, mental health problems, physical or sensory disabilities;
  • travellers and gypsies; and
  • young vulnerable people and teenage parents.

Supporting People funded services assist in the delivery of the prevention agenda. Appropriately delivered housing related support plays a key role in the development and maintenance of sustainable communities.

The programme provides housing support for people to live independently in their own homes. The support may include helping people to access the right benefits and manage finances, teaching the skills to live independently, and advising on home improvements. Services may include short, weekly home visits, or support workers available on-site in supported housing schemes, such as sheltered housing, or homeless hostels.
