Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment

We have produced a Strategic Housing Land Availability Assessment (SHLAA) and consulted key stakeholder organisations on the draft methodology of the Assessment (PDF 705Kb) in June 2008. The SHLAA provides information on the potential for housing to meet identified needs within the study area. It is part of the evidence base to inform the production of the Local Development Framework (LDF).

The SHLAA is a technical study and outcomes of the study do not give a presumption towards development.  Any development site will need to be assessed through the planning process.

A joint SHLAA has been completed for the following four administrative areas within Suffolk:

  • St Edmundsbury Borough;
  • Forest Heath District;
  • Mid Suffolk District; and
  • Babergh District.

Key stakeholders were consulted on the draft SHLAA in Spring 2009 and the Draft Committee version(PDF 999Kb) has been published as an evidence based document alongside the Core Strategy Submission document.

Following the Sustainable Development PAnel meeting on the 22 July 2009 revisions to the final document (PDF 8Mb) have been made and this final version supersedes the Draft Committee version.
