It's official - we are simply the best!
Government figures released today show St Edmundsbury Borough Council is officially top of the league when it comes to recycling. Not only are we at the very top, we are also the ONLY council to have cracked the 50 percent mark! - see Recycling success for details.
Plastic carrier bags and food film
All items collected in the Blue Bin Scheme are taken to a Materials Reclamation Facility (MRF) where they are sorted prior to sending for recycling. The MRF uses machinery as part of the process, but plastic carrier bags and food film can cause the machinery to jam. Please therefore do not put any type of plastic carrier bag, such as those from supermarkets, into your blue bin.
How to present your blue bin waste
All of the recyclable material from your blue bin is sorted partly by machine but also by hand. When material is placed in carrier bags or bin bags these have to be opened before the contents can be identified and sorted.
Contaminated blue bins will not be collected.
Items contained in bags cannot be checked to ensure they are the correct type for the blue bin and so, if bagged waste is included, the collection crews will reject the whole bin.
