Performance indicators

We use lots of information to check how well we are performing. Each year we publish a set of data called Best Value Performance Indicators (BVPIs). This data is collected by every council and we can compare our performance against all other councils across England. The BVPIs are published in a document called the Best Value Performance Plan (BVPP). This is published at the end of June each year. The BVPP is checked by the Audit Commission.

In addition to this annual reporting, we also have a set of data which is reported to councillors four times per year. These are called key performance indicators. This set of data is designed to provide a summary of the council’s overall performance. We also monitor complaints to make sure that we are learning from feedback and improving services. A complaints digest is published twice a year which summarises complaints we have received and how these have been dealt with.

We also monitor our performance through the council's Improvement Plan, which identifies key outcomes from audit and inspection work and actions required to achieve these outcomes. The Improvement Plan can be found on: Improving performance through external challenge
